NEFSA COO Dustin Delano reacts:
"Today’s welcome news is a temporary reprieve for the people of the Searsport region and not a permanent victory. The U.S. Department of Transportation today announced that the Sear’s Island offshore wind terminal will not receive funds from the 2021 infrastructure law. While this is a setback for the state, other financing options remain available.
As the state mulls its next move, NEFSA hopes the people of the Searsport region will closely scrutinize the false promises of jobs and compensation plans port advocates are hawking. Our officers and members have seen developers and their political allies throw money and promises around small communities before. This is the essential fact: their primary objective is not the well-being of our community. It is industrializing our ocean."
