Chairman and Chief Strategist Dustin Delano:
“NEFSA is pleased to see the Canadian government backing away from tariffs that could disrupt the seafood industry. Maintaining stable and predictable seafood trade between the United States and Canada is important to American fishermen, seafood suppliers, processors, and the coastal communities that depend on them.
Our seafood industries are closely connected, with products moving across the border to meet processing, market, and seasonal needs on both sides. The lobster industry is one example, where cross-border processing capacity is particularly important to U.S. harvesters during the summer and fall, while Canadian harvesters benefit from U.S. markets and infrastructure during the winter and spring.
Canada’s decision to withdraw these tariffs will help avoid unnecessary disruption and uncertainty for fishermen, businesses, and coastal communities.”
