“NEFSA’s mission is to protect working waterfronts, promote sustainable and economically viable fisheries, and ensure fishermen have a meaningful voice in federal and regional fisheries policy. In response to the Seafood Competitiveness Executive Order, NEFSA submitted comprehensive comments advocating for American fishermen and domestic seafood producers. Our recommendations urge the Administration to strengthen seafood competitiveness, develop and promote an American Seafood Brand, modernize fisheries science, ensure fair trade enforcement, preserve access to fishing grounds, and oppose unworkable mandates such as ropeless fishing.
We believe this Executive Order presents a critical opportunity to restore American seafood competitiveness through meaningful regulatory relief and policies that prioritize U.S. fishermen, coastal communities, and food security. NEFSA appreciates the Administration’s leadership on these issues and looks forward to continued engagement to ensure these reforms are implemented as intended and without delay.”
