NEFSA Praises United Nations’ Environmental Policy Change

Chairman and Chief Strategist Dustin Delano

The New England Fishermen’s Stewardship Association (NEFSA) welcomes the growing reassessment of extreme climate projections within the scientific community. For years, policies built on worst-case assumptions have placed significant economic strain on American fisheries and coastal communities. When agencies rely on exaggerated climate scenarios, the consequences are very real: reduced catch limits, expanded closed areas, burdensome permitting, and severe restrictions on vessel operations that threaten the economic viability of working waterfronts.

This shift presents an important opportunity to refocus fisheries management on balanced, evidence-based science that supports both marine conservation and the livelihoods of hardworking fishermen. It is a positive step toward strengthening the future of our fishing industry.
